Visio Professional 2007 (ISO) is Microsoft's vector-based diagramming and flowcharting software for Windows. With its powerful editing tools, Visio helps you find the best solution to your design problems. It supports both 2D and 3D diagrams, export to PowerPoint and PDF formats, symbols, stylesheets, animations, stencils and other drawing objects. The first version of the software was released in 1996 as part of Microsoft Office Professional Edition 3. Visio can also be used as a collaboration tool for creating mockup designs and presenting them to colleagues before moving into production settings for final visual design approval or approval from IT management teams that use Visio as their project planning tool. Visio helps organizations to improve productivity and avoid rework, because it allows teamwork and provides visualization for all project participants. The installation process is similar to that of Office 2003. After expanding the files, there's a First Run Wizard page that asks for the product key and the language settings (the default is US English). An Installation Successful dialog box appears afterwards; at this point one can run Visio by clicking Start -> All Programs -> Microsoft Office -> Microsoft Visio 2007. After the first start, a welcome screen appears; it can be removed by "unchecking" the check box. The software uses Visual Basic for Applications (VBA), which allows using macros. VBA macros are limited to about 20KB of code, so complex processing can't be done using them. One can also use Visual Basic 6.0 for this purpose, but it is not enabled by default in Visio. The default macro language for Office 2007 applications is VB.NET, but VBScript is also supported by the suite. The developers chose to use SharePoint 2007 as their backend BI platform because it has a dedicated security model that works well with Visio stencils and shapes. Visio 2007 ships with the pre-release version of Longhorn Server, codenamed "Vail". The tool has been designed to take advantage of Longhorn's newly introduced .svg file format, but will also support existing .vsd and .vdx formats. Visio 2007 is the first release of the product to be released simultaneously in all major languages (Arabic, Chinese, English, French, German, Hebrew, Italian, Japanese and Spanish), with localized versions of the templates.
